Washoe County added only one death from COVID-19 over the weekend. The death toll now stands at 39 – with the latest victim being a woman in her 70s. The county now has nearly 1,100 cases-with almost 600 of them being active and nearly 500 recoveries. At least 42 persons are hospitalized.
Graduation will be drive-thru style for seniors at Carson High School. The ceremony will be held Saturday, June 6th, with times varying. Fire breaks out in an abandoned building in downtown Reno. Reno firefighters were called to Ralston Street and Church Lane Saturday night, where they found some downed power lines. No one was hurt. The building was a total loss, but was going to be demolished anyhow. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
New wind detection signs are going up along U.S. 395 in the North Valleys. NDOT’s work will mean shoulder closures in both directions of the highway from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends starting Tuesday and lasting until May 22nd. Sand Harbor beach and social distancing don’t go hand-in-hand; that means there’s a limit on how many people can be there. This past weekend, the beach took about 300 cars-turning away another 200 or so. At least 150 persons who parked illegally and tried to walk across the street were fined.
The brush fires near Wadsworth are now nearly contained after burning at least 102 acres Sunday afternoon, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.
