A Sparks man is accused in a large-scale mail theft and check fraud scam. Hector Salinas was arrested by Washoe deputies Wednesday after tips from area residents. Officers say they found multiple fake driver’s licenses, fraudulent checks, and stolen mail all in his car. Salinas was on probation at the time of his arrest.
A man faces DUI charges in connection with a chain-reaction crash in southern Nevada that left five bicyclists dead. Jordan Barson of Arizona told officers he fell asleep behind the wheel, but a tox screen showed a high level of meth in his system. He faces 12 felonies, including multiple counts of DUI causing death.
A Sparks man faces charges of child luring and lewdness. Dale Chibante, 63, is accused of initiating an online chat with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl, who was really an undercover detective. He was arrested when he showed up to allegedly meet the girl for sex.
Carson City Fire has a new ladder truck. Ladder 50 was commissioned Wednesday and is expected to be used for the next two decades. A Reno man was killed when his SUV crashed into a school bus Monday on White Lake Parkway and US 395. Police identified him as 36-year-old Michael Highline. A few students on-board the school bus suffered minor injuries. Troopers say weather was a factor in the crash.
