2 convicted sex offenders arrested for non-compliance

Two convicted sex offenders are back behind bars for non-compliance. Washoe deputies handcuffed 53-year-old John Rugaber and 30-year-old James Gisi both failed to register. Both men were convicted of raping children and are Tier 3, or the highest level of sex offenders.

New engineering building opens on UNR’s campus

A new engineering building opens on UNR’s campus. President Marc Johnson called it a “big deal.” And space-wise, at 100,000 sq. ft. it’s huge. The three-story complex will be home for undergrad and graduate students and doctoral candidates studying civil, computer, bio, chemical and electrical engineering.

Construction Crew Finds Dynamite in Sparks

Construction crews uncovered several boxes of dynamite which sparked a bomb threat in Sparks Tuesday afternoon. Two More Schools Report COVID-19 Cases

Vaughn Middle School and Lemelson STEM Academy are the eighth and ninth Washoe County Schools to have confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the school district. According to the district, the schools are following enhanced cleaning protocols per the Washoe County Health District and Centers for Disease Control guidelines.

Nevada Unemployment Plan

Nevada is making plans to funnel $300 a week in federal coronavirus pandemic relief funds to out-of-work state residents, but won’t add $100 from the state, Gov. Steve Sisolak and state unemployment officials announced Tuesday. Sisolak says, “Nevada … anticipates not being able to contribute the additional $100 per week due to budget concerns.”

Sisolak threatens to expose ‘super-spreaders’ of COVID-19

Super-spreaders of COVID-19 may get called out by the state. Governor Steve Sisolak says the state is considering naming places with high numbers of COVID-19, including casinos. Casinos remain open while bars remain closed. Washoe County just saw its highest seven-day rolling average since late June.

Placer Co. deputies find remains linked to 2005 murder

Deputies in Placer County find human remains linked to a 2005 murder. Deputies say the remains belong to 27-year-old Christie Wilson. Mario Garcia was previously convicted of first-degree murder in Wilson’s death–but her body was never found. Detectives say her skeletal remains were located near Garcia’s former home in Auburn.
