Carson Valley Medical Center broke ground Friday on the care facility’s expansion project, which will include acute and Intensive Care Units, an emergency room, a surgical department and radiology services. CVMC currently employs over 460 people, but will need more.
Northern Nevada Medical Center breaks ground on a new emergency room project. The new ER is coming to Spanish Springs off Pyramid Highway. Northern Nevada Medical Center’s CEO tells The Reno Gazette-Journal they chose Spanish Springs because the Sparks area is rapidly growing and they want to ensure residents have access to quality healthcare. The new free-stranding emergency room is slated to open a year from now.
Sales of legal pot have surpassed $1 billion for the fiscal year that ended on June 30. The final total was $300 million more than 2020 sales, which totaled $684 million. Nevada’s K-12 schools benefit from taxes paid on pot sales. They netted $159 million.
A man is arrested in a rural part of Washoe County after deputies say they found him blocking drivers and firing a gun into the air. David Garfield was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and three counts of child abuse or neglect. Deputies say he used his vehicle to block Fish Springs Road and then intimidated motorists with his gun to keep them from driving near his home. Police say some of the vehicles near where he fired off shot had children in them.
A Reno man is arrested on child porn charges. Police handcuffed 27-year-old Jason Dobbs on child porn possession and two counts of using or allowing a child to be used for pornography. His arrest comes after a report was filed with Sparks Police and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Reno Police arrest a man after they say he fired off shots outside the Grand Sierra Resort. Police say a fight broke out outside the Lex Nightclub at 3 a.m. Friday when the shots were fired. No one was hurt. The suspect has not been identified.
A pedestrian is hospitalized after being struck in midtown. Reno police say it happened last night at Liberty and Sinclair streets. They say the pedestrian wasn’t seriously hurt. Police believe the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk when they were struck.
