Reno man convicted in violent attack on ex-girlfriend

A Reno man is convicted of felony domestic battery. Jacob Massey faces six years in prison at sentencing in March. Police say Massey attacked his ex-girlfriend, choking her while forcing her down in October of last year. Police say she escaped and stabbed him. Massey faced life-threatening injuries, but survived.

International students from Sparks school sue over right to play varsity sports

A handful of International students are suing the National Interscholastic Activities Association because they want the opportunity to play varsity sports. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the lawsuit, filed in federal court by students from Excel Christian School in Sparks claims the NIAA’s policies violate international students’ constitutional guarantees for equal protection. Bicyclist cited after crash in Reno

A bicyclist is hospitalized after being struck by a car in Reno. It happened at East 8th and Virginia streets. Police say the bike was traveling against traffic in the middle of the roadway, when the crash occurred. The bicyclist, who will be cited, suffered minor injuries.

Illegal street race leads to 2nd arrest

Another arrest in connection with an illegal street race in Sparks. Police arrested a 17-year-old on charges of felony eluding and street racing. Police broke up the race at Greg Street and McCarran Boulevard Saturday night. They’re still looking for other participants.

Hemp Grower Sues Carson City

A local hemp grower is suing Carson City for trying to block a cannabis farm on about 100 acres of rural property owned by the city.
