International students from Sparks school sue over right to play varsity sports

A handful of International students are suing the National Interscholastic Activities Association because they want the opportunity to play varsity sports. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the lawsuit, filed in federal court by students from Excel Christian School in Sparks claims the NIAA’s policies violate international students’ constitutional guarantees for equal protection. Excel argues it’s not handpicking players, and says the only state competition its ever won is the Academic Olympics.
