The Reno Air Races are yet another casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Reno Air Racing Association Board says concerns surrounding health and safety of those involved and guests played a major part in their decision-plus there’s too much uncertainty around coronavirus restrictions for large events. A better day than yesterday. Washoe County added 28 new COVID-19 cases instead of 90. Of those, 77 persons are hospitalized-that’s a new record we didn’t want to see. The county added 38 recoveries and saw no new deaths-with the death toll standing at 74.
Checking the COVID-19 picture for you in the Quad-County region. The area saw nearly a dozen new cases with half the cases involving Carson City women in their 20s and 50s. 94 cases remain active while 214 persons have recovered.
Graffiti is on the rise in several neighborhoods south from Incline Village and north to Highland Ranch. The Washoe County sheriff’s office says we often see a spike in vandalism in the summertime, and they’re asking you to report any graffiti you see as soon as you see it.
Harveys Lake Tahoe will reopen at the end of this month. The opening on June 30th includes the new Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen restaurant. Mask wearing was going to be required — even before the governor’s newly announced mandate.
Governor Steve Sisolak signed an Emergency Directive, which will gradually lift the moratorium on evictions. He also strongly urged landlords and tenants to work together and collaborate on repayment plans. Fire Crews knocked down a large structure fire that burned a condominium complex Thursday afternoon in northwest Reno. The fire, which broke out shortly before 4 p.m. on Freddie Court, is currently under investigation. three people were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. Officials said three units were destroyed, and seven people were displaced.

A massive wildfire is burning in Douglas County. The Monarch Fire broke out at lunchtime Wednesday in the Pinenut Mountains, southeast of Gardnerville. It spans 1,800 acres. So far, no structures are threatened, but thick smoke could be seen coming from the mountainside. The fire isn’t even slightly contained at this time.
