Nevada’s Budget & COVID-19

As Nevada’s coronavirus-related budget shortfall continues to grow, some state lawmakers believe a special legislative session will be needed to balance the budget for the upcoming biennium. The deficit for the current fiscal year will likely be around $800 million. Projections show that the shortfall for fiscal year 2020-2021 will be upwards of $1 billion.

Washoe County Still Seeing Spike in COVID-19 Cases

Washoe County is still seeing a steady stream of new coronavirus cases. The county has a total of 1,022 confirmed cases since March 5, when the first resident tested positive for the virus. Nearly 15 percent of those have happened in the first six days of May, with 151 new cases.

Health officials warn Washoe County not close to reopening

Washoe County is not close to reopening under Governor Steve Sisolak’s plans. The county must see a 14-day downward trajectory in new COVID-19 cases while maintain hospital capacity as well as have contact tracing workers in place.
