Nevada settles a lawsuit with a Dayton church over the limiting of church services during COVID. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the state will pay $175,000 to Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley after the church challenged Governor Sisolak’s 50-person limit on indoor worship at the height of the pandemic. Evacuation orders have been lifted in northern Douglas County – where a wildfire is now contained. The 700-acre Jacks Valley fire is burning west of Jacks Valley and was fueled by strong; it had threatened structures. U.S. 395 remained opened during firefighting efforts. Firefighters have stopped forward progress of the Meeks Fire burning on Lake Tahoe’s west shore. CalFire says a tree hit a power line, sparking the two to three-acre fire yesterday. Highway 89 reopened after being shuttered for a time. No homes were threatened though voluntary evacuations were in place.

An Arizona box truck driver who killed five bicyclists on a stretch of Nevada Highway last year gets 16 years in prison. Jordan Barson of Kingman apologized at his sentencing in Las Vegas. He pleaded guilty to charges of DUI causing death.
