Child struck crossing US 50 near Zephyr Cove

A 5-year-old is hurt after being struck by a vehicle near the south end of Lake Tahoe. Troopers say the child was crossing U.S. 50 at Zephyr Cove. The vehicle that struck the child was traveling at a low rate of speed and suffered minor injuries. Four other children made it across safely.

Washoe County adds 3 COVID-19 deaths

Washoe County adds three COVID-19 deaths for a total of 576. The latest deaths involve women in their 40s and 80s and a man in his 70s. The county added 176 new cases and nearly 700 recoveries. 162 persons remain hospitalized with the virus.

10,700 Christmas trees recycled by Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful

Nearly 11,000 Christmas trees were turned into mulch for parks projects as part of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful’ s annual Christmas tree recycling program. Residents can also use the mulch free-of-charge; it’s available for pick-up at Bartley Ranch. Anyone who still has a tree can recycle it at RT Donovan in Sparks.
