Nevada prisons taking extra COVID precautions amid surge in cases

The Nevada Department of Corrections is taking additional steps to try to stop the spread of COVID-19 behind bars. The Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City got a fogging machine it will use to sanitize common areas and cells. They’re also now requiring all staff who are around inmates to wear an N-95 mask-not just a cloth mask. More than 2,400 offenders have tested positive along with 561 staff-marking 21 percent of the total prison population. Eight inmates and two staffers have died since the start of the pandemic.
