Distance learning continues in Washoe County

It’s been a week and students in Washoe County are still taking part in distance learning due to smoke from wildfires. The district had hoped smoke would dissipate today and students could get back in the classroom, but called for a distance learning day.

Alleged threat deemed not credible at Fernley HS

An anonymous threat led to a lockdown at Fernley High School yesterday. School officials say someone called in alleging a possible harmful action against the school. School administration called police, who determined the threat wasn’t credible.

Driver ejected, killed in Hawthorne crash

A driver is killed in a rollover crash in Hawthorne. It happened on SR 359, near mile marker 29, late Wednesday morning. Troopers say the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Reno man arrested in Mt. Rose crash

A Reno man is arrested in connection with a fatal crash. 26-year-old Alexandrew Vail faces a DUI charge in connection with a crash that killed 27-year-old Emily Guidici. It happened Tuesday on Mt. Rose Highway by Douglas Fire and Sunridge drives.

RTC gets $23M to expand Pyramid Highway

A planned extension of Pyramid Highway gets a federal boost. The RTC has received $23 million from the U.S.Department of Transportation to expand Pyramid Highway from Queen Way to Golden View Drive. The 2.5-mile stretch will expand the highway from four lanes to six in sections.

Slink Fire in Coleville up to 70% contained now

Firefighters are getting a better handle on the Slink Fire burning in Coleville, California. The fire is above 70 percent containment after scorching more than 26,000 acres. It’s one of several fires sending smoke into our area.

3 finalists named to lead RSCVA

13 people apply for vacant Washoe Co. School Board seat

More than a dozen people want Scott Kelley’s vacant seat on the Washoe County School Board. Kelley resigned amid allegations involving his divorce-but he’s still running for re-election against opponent Jeffrey Church. The other 13 just want to fill the seat until November. The board will make its pick next week.
