Fire breaks out in the Eldorado National Forest – southwest of Lake Tahoe. The Fork Fire has scorched 100 acres. It’s unclear how it was sparked. The fire is one of 76-hundred active fires in California, which has seen a record breaking 2.3 million acres burned so far this year.
Heavenly Ski Resort and Northstar will open for the winter season starting November 20th. If you plan on attending, face coverings will be required along with reservations. Pass holders to both resorts will get priority access. Keystone Resort will open a bit earlier on November 6th.
Campgrounds which a day ago had hosted scores of people are empty, locked up. Boat ramps closed. Except for an occasional cyclist, the road between Boca and Stampede Reservoirs–part of the Tahoe National Forest–is empty now because of wildfire concerns.
The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees Tuesday night voted 5-1 to settle a lawsuit with former Superintendent Traci Davis for a payment of $70,000. Under the agreement, Davis will receive a $70,000 settlement as part of her wrongful termination lawsuit, which was scheduled to go to trial this fall.
Authorities said Tuesday the deaths of three people, including the father-and-son owners of a Virginia City gun store and a local man who shot them, appeared to be a Labor Day holiday double-murder and suicide. Washoe County’s death toll from COVID-19 remains at 146. The county added 70 new cases and 46 recoveries Monday.
Starting today, Sand Harbor Park has new hours. It’s open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The boat ramp and parking lot will close for the season October 15th.
