Nevada doctors and dentists may soon resume medical and dental procedures that are considered necessary but were delayed because of the coronavirus. Gov. The Washoe County Health District says a spike in COVID-19 cases over the weekend is tied to people getting together for Easter celebrations-despite stay-at home orders. Health Officer Kevin Dick says the three dozen new cases are likely tied to such gatherings – which health officials had asked people to do virtually this year.
The assistant soccer coach at Truckee Meadows Community College has died from COVID-19. 54-year-old Gonzalo Lopez coached the Mighty Lizards, starting with their inaugural season in the fall of 2019. The school’s president called him an “integral” part of the new soccer program. He previously coached at UNR.
The Northern Nevada State Veterans Home in Sparks is COVID-19-free. All 75 residents have been tested, and none were found to have the virus. One non-clinical staff member did test positive-and was asymptomatic. That person is now isolating at home.
A motorcyclist is dead after a crash in Reno. Police say a motorcycle and a vehicle collided at Long Meadow Drive and Veterans Parkway Monday. The driver of the vehicle was also hospitalized.
Thieves also hit the Salvation Army of Washoe County, taking catalytic converters from two of their buses. The organization doesn’t know when the thefts occurred because the buses have been largely out of use since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Reno police are investigating.
