Sparks can now hold jury trials on the municipal court level. The court can hear cases like misdemeanor domestic violence, which require jury trials because a conviction forfeits a defendant’s right to bear arms. Council voted 4 to 1 to conduct the trials. Reno made the same move last month.

We now have the name of a homeless man struck and killed along I-80. He is 44-year-old Raymond Rivera. Police say Rivera was hit while walking Sunday along I-80 westbound near Virginia Street.

We now have the name of a homeless man who was found dead in the Truckee River in Reno. 71-year-old George Manchester’s body was found near Riverside Drive and Booth Street Friday. His cause of death remains under investigation.

A convicted sex offender in California is arrested by U.S. Marshals in Reno. Agents say Adam Campbell violated his parole. He was nabbed at a motel on Sutro Street Monday. Agents say he has a history of failing to register as a sex offender.

A Veterans Unit to open soon at Washoe County Jail. Veterans facing murder or other serious charge could not qualify to be part of the new unit at the Jail. But those who choose to participate will be placed in an area where there are men who served in the military just like themselves.
