Reno Mayor Advises Residents to Wear Facial Coverings

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve held a virtual press conference on Thursday afternoon. She encouraged residents that if they have to go outside for whatever reason, to wear masks althugh She said she cannot mandate that residents wear them. She also told residents who don’t have masks to use bandanas, scarves and similar articles of clothing.

New COVID-19 Cases iin Washoe County

Washoe County reported 21 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total cases to 184. The county also reported eight recoveries, giving Washoe County 26 recoveries. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reported two employees tested positive.

Northern Nevada HOPES gets $64K to fight coronavirus pandemic

A local non-profit is getting tens of thousands of dollars in federal money to fight COVID-19. Northern Nevada HOPES is getting $64,000 from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration to buy personal protective gear as well as medical and behavioral case management for patients as well as telehealth services doting the global pandemic.

Operators from the Washoe County Health District, REMSA, and UNR School of Medicine are answering questions and concerns about COVID 19. Calls can be about symptoms, exposure, and social distancing. Four lines are dedicated to not only the community, but doctors, pharmacists, or other health care providers. The number is 775-328-2427.

Another COVID-19 Death in Washoe County

Washoe County Health Officials confirmed a fourth death related to COVID-19 in the county on Wednesday. The death was a man in his 40s with a preexisting medical condition, according to the district. The number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Nevada is up to 1,279 as of Wednesday.
