Nugget General Manager Mark Sterbens called canceling the event a “difficult” decision, but says it’s best for the safety of residents and guests since hundreds of thousands typically attend. One person is hurt after a shooting near Boomtown. Police say shots were fired from a car on westbound I-80 near the Mogul exit. The victim ended up at a nearby Chevron gas station with a bullet wound. So far, no arrests have been made.

A van crashes into a funeral home in Sparks. It happened Sunday on Sullivan Lane. Police say the driver was heading north, when they saw something out of the corner of their eye, and overcorrected, hopping a curb and careening into Waltons Funerals and Cremations. No one was hurt.
