The Quad-County region is reporting its eighth death from COVID-19 along with 10 new cases. The death involved a man from Carson City in his 60s with no underlying health conditions. The area also added 6 recoveries and has a total of 127 active cases.
A motorcyclist was seriously hurt in a crash in Sparks.. It happened Tuesday on North McCarran Boulevard and Wedekind Road. Police are looking for witnesses, including a mountain biker, in the area at the time of the crash.

Multiple agencies continue to battle the 18,000-acre Numbers Fire that broke out off U.S. 395 south of Gardnerville late Monday night. One house and 12 outbuildings burned in the fire. Douglas County has lifted recommended evacuations for the Bodie Flats and Pine View Estates areas. Only residents will be allowed into those areas.
Amid an outbreak of COVID-19 at its facility, the Northern Nevada State Veterans Home in Sparks is seeing its first death from the virus. Several campfire rings have been found near the Rose Fire sparked over the weekend off Mt. Rose Highway. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, which at last check was 60 percent contained, after burning just over an acre of forested area.
We now have the names of two teens who were killed in a July 4th crash. Police say 16-year-old driver Giovvani Oliva of Reno and 17-year-old passenger Justyn Lopez-Florez of Fernley were pronounced dead at the scene after their car veered off the road and struck a tree on Sparks Boulevard near Baring Boulevard.
A man who drowned in the Sparks marina has been identified. He is 56-year-old Eric Johnson of Reno. Johnson’s body was found Sunday, one day after he’d been seen in distress.
Douglas County officials say crews continue to work the Numbers Fire burning in the Pine Nuts and Pine View area of Gardnerville. The fire sparked about 7pm last night and spread quickly. Health officials reported no deaths, 35 new COVID-19 cases and 62 recoveries in Washoe County on Monday. The death toll in Washoe County is 82 and there are currently 1,130 active cases countywide. The county’s total number of positive cases is 3,260 along with 2,048 recoveries.
