Washoe County Schools are open today after being closed on Monday due to poor air quality from the Loyalton Fire burning north of Reno. Superintendent Dr. Kristin McNeil said, “we are excited and eager to welcome students back to school however this is a very fluid situation, in our region.”
An elderly woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Reno. It happened Sunday at Wells Avenue and Vassar Street. There, police say two cars nearly collided, and one swerved to avoid crashing and struck the elderly woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man is shot in Spanish Springs Saturday night. Police were called to the 2400 block of Wingfield Hills Road. Police say the 22-year-old man was treated and released from the hospital. So far, no one’s been arrested.
Washoe County adds two COVID-19 deaths Sunday, for a total of 127. Both deaths involved women with underlying health conditions in their 70s and 80s. The county added 67 cases and 45 recoveries.
