Nevada Day celebrations this year won’t include a parade. The organizing committee says the parade down Main Street in Carson City is off the table because of COVID-19. But they’re hoping to still do the hot air balloon launch and beard contest. A golf tournament will also be revived after a decade.

Reno man sentenced in federal child porn case

A Reno man is heading to prison on child porn charges. Daren Phillips, 51, will spend five years in federal prison after he was caught with thousands of violent sexual images and videos of minors. He pleaded guilty last summer.

Convicted sex offender back behind bars

A man is arrested after deputies say he failed to register as a sex offender. 24-year-old Thomas Sheffler, who was convicted of rape in New York last year, was found living in Reno. Deputies say he was also charged with soliciting a child for prostitution and pornography and attempted kidnapping.
