A Reno man is heading to prison on child porn charges. Daren Phillips, 51, will spend five years in federal prison after he was caught with thousands of violent sexual images and videos of minors. He pleaded guilty last summer.
A man is arrested after deputies say he failed to register as a sex offender. 24-year-old Thomas Sheffler, who was convicted of rape in New York last year, was found living in Reno. Deputies say he was also charged with soliciting a child for prostitution and pornography and attempted kidnapping.
A staffer who works at both Spanish Springs Elementary and Spanish Spring High has tested positive for COVID-19. The district says no one will be excluded from those schools as a result. Washoe County’s death toll from COVID-19 still stands at 146. The county added 40 new COVID cases and 58 recoveries.
