Unhealthy Air Means More Distance Learning Today

Washoe, Carson City and some Douglas County students will be distance learning today. Officials say the air quality is in the “unhealthy range” and because of that, school district officials have decided to keep students home. Douglas County School District officials say this only applies to Douglas County VALLEY school students.

Fatal Crash on Mt. Rose Highway this Morning

Mt. Rose Highway was closed early Tuesday morning while the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash. Bear Fire claims at least 15 lives

The lightning-sparked North Complex fires that consist of the Bear, Sheep, and Claremont Fires near Susanville continue to rage. Scorching more than 264,000 acres so far, the fires are just 35 percent contained. The Bear Fire is the deadliest of the three–killing as many as 15 people.

Fork Fire, burning near Lake Tahoe, still raging

The Fork Fire continues to burn southwest of Lake Tahoe in the Eldorado National Forest. The fire, sparked last week, spans more than 1,700 acres and is just 7 percent contained. All Tahoe National Forest campgrounds remain closed due to the fire. A dense smoke advisory remains in effect in northern Washoe County today.

Pres. Trump blames poor forest management for CA wildfires

President Donald Trump surveyed California wildfire damage Monday. While scientists largely say climate change is to blame, the president says the main cause of the fires out west is poor forest management. Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden says Trump’s refusal to address climate change adds to the wildfire and flood threats our nation is facing.
