I80 back open

Caltrans says I-80 is back open to passenger vehicles. Chain controls are still in place for east-bound traffic beginning with Colfax, and for west-bound traffic at the Nevada state line.

School District approves firearms K9

The Washoe County School Board last night approved a firearms K9. KOLO says the police dog and its handler will be responsible for patrolling schools to look for firearms. The Board’s goal is to have the dog, and its handler, working in district schools by this spring.

Reno Aces name new GM

The Reno Aces have named Chris Phillips as the newest General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. He is set to begin his second season with the Aces.

Douglas County activates call center

Douglas County has activated a call center to allow the public to report non-emergency incidents related to the current flooding. Residents can call 775-783-6038 to report any non-emergency-related flood concerns. The call center is operational from 8 a.m. through 10 p.m. daily. For flood emergencies, please call 911.

BLM plans meeting on solar plan

Police officer shot

A police officer was shot in West Reno yesterday. KOLO says police were called to an apartment complex on Sky Valley Drive, on reports of unknown trouble. Two suspects were involved in the shooting, and bother were shot. Police said the officer needed surgery.

One person dead in U.S. 95 crash

Nevada State Police say a crash on U.S. 95 has left one person dead. The driver of a gray Chevy pickup was headed south when the driver failed to safety negotiate a turn, and the driver lost control, ran off the road, and the vehicle overturned. Decision on Reno Police Chief coming soon

The Reno City Council is set to pick the city’s next police chief at its Wednesday meeting, and City Manager Doug Thornley has nominated the Stockton Deputy Police Chief, Kathryn Nance, to be Reno’s next Chief of Police. The other finalist to replace Jason Soto as Chief is Sparks Police Chief Christopher Crawforth.

Christmas Tree Recycling Program extended

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is extending its Christmas Tree Recycling Program. Residents can now recycle their Christmas trees at one of the six community drop-off locations until January 15th. The extra time is because of recent storms. The goal is to keep more trees out of the landfill.
