The coronavirus outbreak at the Washoe County Jail is growing. The sheriff’s office says 35 inmates and nine staff have tested positive-for a total of 44. That’s up from 16 a week ago. A special housing unit has been cordoned off to house COVID-positive inmates. The jail continues to be in lockdown.
A fight leads to shots fired in Reno. Police were called to Montello Street last night where they say two people intended to fight and then fired shots at one another. One person suffered injuries of some kind, but refused medical treatment.
One person is seriously hurt in a head-on crash on Rock Boulevard. Firefighters had to extricate the person who was trapped inside the vehicle yesterday. Their injuries are considered life-threatening. The other driver suffered minor injuries.
Washoe County sees seven straight days of record active COVID-19 cases. We’re up to more than 2,100 now–that’s 40 percent more than last week. A home is destroyed by fire in Palomino Valley. Truckee Meadows firefighters were called to Thumbs Up Road just before 1 a.m. to find the home fully engulfed. No word on whether anyone was hurt.
There’s a positive case of COVID-19 at a South Lake Tahoe School. District officials say someone at Bijou Community School has tested positive for the virus. It’s unclear whether that person is a staffer or a student. The school serves kids in K through fifth grades.
