1 dead in shooting near midtown Reno

Reno police are investigating a fatal shooting just south of midtown. They say one person was shot and killed near Hillcrest Drive and South Virginia Street last night. They say all suspects are detained, and there’s no threat to the public.

First Flu Death of the Season in Washoe County

A man in his 60s is the first influenza-associated death in Washoe County for the current flu season and the first flu-associated death since December of 2019. According to the Washoe County Health District, the man had underlying health conditions.

Demand surges at homeless shelters in Reno amid winter storm

The winter storm has led hundreds of people experiencing homelessness to sign up for beds at Reno’s homeless shelter on East Fourth Street, which expanded operations this winter due to the pandemic in an effort to keep people socially distanced. The Community Assistance Center on Record Street is also seeing a spike in demand.
