The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees has approved a new sex ed curriculum for fourth and fifth graders. The new lessons for fourth graders include topics like puberty and consent. Fifth graders will talk about understanding boundaries, and reproductive anatomy.

A Fernley man faces between six years and fifteen years in prison for aggravated stalking and for violation of a protection order. 56 year old Timothy Wurth pleaded guilty in May to harassing, threatening and terrifying the victim, who reportedly had a protection order against him.
Reno Police Department are classifying a Saturday night stabbing in Stead as a case of self defense. A man faces charges after police say he threw rocks at neighbors, yelled racial slurs and head butted a police officer. Scott Abel was taken into custody after the Sunday evening incident at 5662 Churchill Green Drive in Sparks.

A 40-year-old man has been found guilty of molesting a child as young as 5 years old. Brandon Christopher Smith will be sentenced in September, on multiple counts. The victim’s mother had reported to Sparks police in 2021 that her then-13-year-old daughter had said Smith started molesting her when she was 5 or 6.
Authorities have caught a suspect in the murder of a woman found at a home on Tybo Avenue in northeast Reno this weekend. Mark Forcum’s 30-year-old wife, Ashley, had been shot in the head. Carson City’s landfill will be closed today because of a fire that broke out there yesterday. The Carson City fire department said the fire was burning in construction debris that is hard to reach. No structures were damaged and the fire is not a threat to the surrounding area.
The Washoe County Board of Commissioners has voted against initiating regulations to allow for the creation of cannabis lounges in unincorporated parts of the county. Sol Cannabis was granted a conditional license from the state last month, but Washoe County needed to green light the lounge for it to happen.
