A shooting and a separate shots fired incident in Reno Monday morning. At about 2:30am, police say a car crashed after a man was shot and tried to drive away from the scene at University Ridge Park. Police are also investigating a separate shots fired incident that happened on Yori Avenue and Grove Street.
The Sparks Fire Department managed to quickly contain a fire at the Deco Apartment Complex Monday morning. The City of Sparks says the fire was contained to a 6th floor balcony and was under control as of around 11:00 a.m. Monday, reports KOLO 8. No injuries reported. No word yet on a cause.
One person under arrest in Reno in connection with an arson. KOLO 8 reports police cuffed 43-year-old Antony Price for the fire that displaced one person from an apartment at 2431 Patton Drive at 8:37 a.m last Thursday.
Starting Friday, Carson City will be implementing fire restrictions. Officials say there are concerns about increasing daytime temperatures, wind and drying fuels. The restrictions are in effect for all lands, both private and public. Also, drivers are warned that hot exhaust can also spark wildfires in the dry grass.

A woman was killed in a deadly crash on I-80 near Patrick. Police say as a driver was trying to change lanes she clipped the front of another vehicle, sending it into a guardrail. The driver of that second vehicle, 58-year-old Ann Marie Graham of Wadsworth was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men are dead after they were thrown from a car during a suspected drunk driving crash in Reno on the Fourth of July. Teachers and staff in the Carson City School District are getting a pay increase. KOLO 8 reports the pay hikes will take effect in the 2024 school year, retro to the time of approval. Starting salaries have been brought up to $52,000 annually from $43,000 a year.
The Washoe County School District has approved a new sex education curriculum for fourth and fifth graders. KOLO 8 reports the new lessons will include topics like puberty, understanding bodies and consent for fourth graders. Meanwhile fifth graders will discuss reproductive anatomy and pregnancy, like versus love, and understanding boundaries, consent, and sexual assault.
A man was arrested on charges of elder abuse and false imprisonment in Cold Springs after police talked to his mother, who claimed she had suffered continuous abuse at his hands. 50 year old Steven Door was cuffed after police responded to the area following a 911 call hang up.
