The City of Reno is asking the state legislature to lift caps off taxes so they can raise money to maintain parks, recreation centers, trails and pools. The pandemic led to cuts for parks and recs and there no plans to replace those workers. The city estimates it needs as much as $200 million.

Governor Steve Sisolak rolled up his sleeved and got his COVID-19 vaccination Thursday. The governor is eligible both because of his occupation and his age. A pedestrian is struck by a car in Reno. It happened last night at Moana Lane and South Virginia Street. Police say the pedestrian suffered moderate injuries and had to be hospitalized. The driver is cooperating with authorities.

The Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry will go on this weekend in Virginia City, but it’ll be a lot smaller than past years. The event is limited to 35% capacity-so just 25 businesses are taking part. While thousands usually attend the outdoor street event, this year participants are limited to 400.

Saturday is your last chance to partake in the winter hike series. The Truckee Meadows Park Foundation invites you to take a self-guided tour of Idlewild Park in Reno from 9 a.m. to noon. The hikes are kid and pet-friendly.

The Reno Aces have a new major league field. They’ve got a brand new diamond and outfield at Greater Nevada Field for better playability. KOLO-TV reports fans will also notice new LED lighting and netting. The Aces’ home opener is scheduled for May 13th against the Las Vegas Aviators.
