The North Tahoe Fire Protection District is mourning the loss of one of its employees. They say facilities coordinator Tim Schrader was killed in a back-country incident over the weekend. Schrader was snowmobiling and fell over a cliff at Frog Lakes Cliffs near Donner Pass last weekend. His fall triggered an avalanche.

A man is lucky to be alive after police say he fell asleep behind the wheel along Old Highway 395 in Washoe Valley. Police say his vehicle rolled several times and wound up in a ditch. He didn’t even need medical attention.
