California Governor Gavin Newsom handily defeats a recall aimed at removing him from elected office before his term is up. The recall took aim at Newsom’s pandemic policies including mask-wearing and vaccine mandates. Newsome says his victory is a win for science, vaccines, and women’s rights. Two-thirds of the ballots counted rejected recalling Newsom.
Washoe County School Board Trustee Jacqueline Calvert has resigned after she admitted to moving out of the district. Calvert claims she failed to realize the error and the impact it would have on her elected office.
Most northern Nevada hospitals are at capacity, according to the Nevada Hospital Association, as unvaccinated COVID-19 patients push the region’s health care system to the brink. As of Tuesday, over 250 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Washoe County and Carson City. The ‘overwhelming majority’ were unvaccinated, according to hospital officials.
