Appeal filed against slaughterhouse proposed in Carson City

A proposed slaughterhouse in Carson City sees a legal challenge. The Nevada Appeal reports Maxine Nietz, a former member of the city’s planning commission, filed the challenge with the Board of Supervisors. Neitz’s appeal cites concerns residents expressed-like waste and odor and potential pollution of the Carson River.

Troopers arrest man after hit-and-run crash, standoff in Reno

A man is arrested following a hit-and-run crash that resulted in a standoff with troopers. Police say a driver sped away from a crash on U.S. 395 near North McCarran Boulevard, and when officers caught up with him, he locked himself in a vehicle on 5th Street between Center and Lake. He eventually peacefully surrendered.

New elementary school coming to southeast Reno

A new elementary school is coming to southeast Reno in an effort to solve overcrowding issues. The Washoe County School Board voted unanimously to approve the 86,000 sq. ft. campus to be built in the Rio Wrangler Parkway area. Police look for suspects in shooting in Sparks

Police are looking for suspects in a shoot-out in Sparks. Police were called to K Street Sunday morning for reports of a fight in the street and several gunshots. At least one person was hospitalized with a gunshot wound, but is expected to survive. Several homes and vehicles were also hit by bullets.
