News Staff We now have the name of a motorcyclist killed in a crash a week ago. Troopers say 41-year-old Michael Lawson of Carson City was killed in the crash between two motorcycles that happened on East Fir Avenue in Silver Springs. Police say both motorcyclists were ejected and believed to be impaired.
South Lake Tahoe police arrest a man following an armed standoff. A crash involving a Washoe County school bus has left a teenage motorcyclist dead in Spanish Springs. Deputies say it happened at Eagle Canyon Drive and Richard Springs Boulevard. Police say there were students on the bus at the time that it crashed. No one on-board the bus was injured.
A Washoe County sheriff’s deputy, found guilty of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter avoids jail time. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Deputy Jade Brinson was responding to reports of a drunk driver, when he turned in front of a motorcyclist, killing 74-year-old Joel Edwards of Sparks last year. One person is dead in gunfire in Reno. Police say it happened Wednesday around 10 p.m. on Patton Drive near Tripp Drive, just east of UNR’s campus. No one’s been arrested yet, but police say there’s no ongoing threat to the public.
Two women are arrested after a terrifying attack on Halloween night in Placerville. Police there say Theodora Economou and Vivian Bertrand were damaging private property on Main Street, and attacked two people with a hatchet-like weapon. They’re both behind bars at the El Dorado County Jail on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
The Washoe County Health District has fixed a problem that previously only allowed people to schedule appointments for Pfizer boosters. Now, the online scheduling tool shows available booster shot appointments for Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. Reno residents can soon get to Palm Springs, California, easier. A new airline based out of the Reno-Tahoe Airport will fly there. The airline, called Aha! Will offer flights three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, starting early next year. The quick trip on a 50-seat jet takes just 90 minutes.
