A ban on most outdoor cooking and recreational fires is now in effect in unincorporated parts of Washoe County that are part of the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. The ban prohibits use of campfires, charcoal briquettes, fire pits, and any wood-burning form of cooking. Propane, electric, and pellet-fueled barbecues are still allowed. Firefighters say with several devastating wildfires in the region, unincorporated areas of Washoe County can’t afford to take the risk.
