Reno police will soon be required to intervene if they see fellow officers using excessive force. The new policy was announced by Chief Jason Soto Wednesday in response to the racially-charged police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis – as many, nationwide, call for more police accountability. Soto called Floyd’s killing “senseless” and says the lack of intervention was disturbing. Wednesday charges against ex-officer Derek Chauvin were upgraded to second-degree murder, and three other ex-officers who watched Floyd’s death were charged.
