As the Caldor Fire approaches full containment, UNR scientists are beginning to study the effects of lingering smoke-and ash -on Lake Tahoe and other alpine lakes. They say effects of wildfire smoke on another lake completely changed the structure of algae and the animals living in that lake. They say the key to Lake Tahoe’s clarity has always been the growth of algae. The Caldor Fire is now 93% contained and all evacuation warnings in El Dorado County have been lifted.
