A man is arrested following a hit-and-run crash that resulted in a standoff with troopers. Police say a driver sped away from a crash on U.S. 395 near North McCarran Boulevard, and when officers caught up with him, he locked himself in a vehicle on 5th Street between Center and Lake. He eventually peacefully surrendered.
The Washoe County Commission votes to use a $1 million grant to buy property around Swan Lake and demolish it-leaving it as open space. The fiver properties are in flood plains and new deed restrictions will ensure that area will never be developed.
A new elementary school is coming to southeast Reno in an effort to solve overcrowding issues. The Washoe County School Board voted unanimously to approve the 86,000 sq. ft. campus to be built in the Rio Wrangler Parkway area. The COVID-19 picture is improving in Washoe County. The COVID-19 risk meter now shows the area now ranks at “high” – down from “very high.” The current surge of COVID-19, fueled by the Delta variant, peaked on September 13. Our positivity rate still stands at 12%.
Police are looking for suspects in a shoot-out in Sparks. Police were called to K Street Sunday morning for reports of a fight in the street and several gunshots. At least one person was hospitalized with a gunshot wound, but is expected to survive. Several homes and vehicles were also hit by bullets.
