A Red Flag Warning Friday is causing issues for firefighters battling the Caldor and Dixie Fires. The Caldor Fire, burning near South Lake Tahoe, stands at 218,000 acres after growing less than 1,000 acres overnight. It remains 53% contained. Firefighters worked yesterday to remove dangerous trees along the U.S. 50 corridor to keep the fire in check in the Kirkwood area.
Meantime, Campground by the Lake in South Lake Tahoe will open as a shelter for Caldor Fire evacuees. While evacuation orders in the city have been downgraded, the shelter will serve as a free campsite for anyone in the area who needs to wait out evacuation orders.
