The Caldor Fire grew by less than 500 acres with containment rising to 65 percent over the weekend. The fire that destroyed more than 780 homes and threatened the Lake Tahoe Basin spans nearly 219,000 acres. Firefighters continue efforts to remove dangerous trees so highways can reopen.

Nevada will require state employees who work at health care facilities and prisons to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The state Board of Health voted Friday to require the vaccinations by November 1. Those who don’t comply will face administration leave or re-assignment.

Reno firefighters make quick work of a fire just west of downtown. They were called to a home converted to a business near West First and Arletta streets. The building was vacant and sustained damage, mostly, to its exterior. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Deputies were called to the scene of a fire in Sun Valley, but ended up arresting a fugitive wanted in California for sex crimes. Jack Haynes, 65, was arrested last week along Ted Court, the scene of a trailer fire. He faces charges of rape and sexual assault of a child.

More than three dozen people were cited in a recent pedestrian safety campaign in Reno. Seven officers took park in increased enforcement in areas that have seen the highest number of pedestrian-related incidents. Both drivers and pedestrians were the target; a total of 38 were cited.

Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall will be departing her position at the end of this week to take on a role as an advisor in the Biden Administration.
