This year’s wildfire season is one for the record books. The U.S. is now at day 68 of being on Wildland Fire Preparedness Level Five-the longest we’ve ever been on this high of an alert. Preparedness Level 5 is declared when more than 80% of the nation’s wildland firefighting resources are in use. There have been 73 large fires in 12 states, including the Caldor and Dixie fires that continue to burn in California.
