We now have the name of a person who died in a head-on crash on Mount Rose Highway. Troopers say 29-year-old Nikolas Emerson of Reno was killed in the crash, that was just past Galena Estates, on August 6th. Emerson was a passenger in a vehicle that crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle.
A federal jury convicts a man accused of murdering two women on tribal lands in Humboldt County. Stoney Prior was convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting deaths of 40-year-old Amy Hinkey and 31-year-old Adeline Sam. Mandatory evacuations are expanding in Plumas County as the Dixie Fire moves towards the eastern edge. The fire now spans more than 600,000 acres and is still just 31% contained. It’s destroyed more than 1,200 structures.
Flood barriers around Silver Lake are set to be removed. The barriers were installed in 2017 following a bad winter when the lake had become full enough to reach nearby roads.
