Containment grows slightly on the Dixie Fire. The more than 670,000-acre mega-fire is now 35 percent contained with evacuation orders in some places reduced to warnings. More than 1,200 structures have been destroyed by the flames. Volunteers are gathering at shelters with Mercy Chefs making 1,000 meals a day for those who’ve been displaced.
A woman injured in a hit-and-run crash in June has died from her injuries. Tina Samuels, 39, of Reno was in an SUV that was hit at Kietzke Lane and Vassar Street on June 14th. A man was also hurt in the crash, but survived.
A magnitude 3.3 earthquake hit near Carson City Wednesday night. The USGS and Nevada Seismological Lab clocked the earthquake at 10:23 p.m. They say it hit about six miles east-southeast of Carson City, eight miles south-southwest of Dayton, and 12 miles south of Virginia City.
A man’s body was pulled from the Truckee River east of Sparks on Wednesday afternoon. The body was spotted in the water near Mustang by someone fishing on the banks of the river. A man is stabbed in a carjacking in Sparks. It happened in alleyway between 4th and 5th streets in broad daylight Tuesday. Police say the victim was stabbed multiple times and had his vehicle stolen. A death investigation is underway in northwest Reno. Reno police were called to a home on Ambassador Drive near Bankside Way yesterday afternoon. There, they say they found a man and woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Police believe the incident could’ve been a murder-suicide.
