The Caldor Fire, burning in El Dorado County, grew larger over the weekend. The fire is now more than 98,000 acres. It’s destroyed at least 340 homes so far, and more than 17,000 are in the path of the flames. The fire is just 5% contained at last check. Highway 50 remains closed in the area with no estimate on when it will reopen.
The Douglas County Community and Senior Center is now serving as an evacuation center for those who’ve had to flee their homes from the Caldor Fire. All programs and dining for seniors have been suspended until further notice though Meals on Wheels will still operate.
