Dixie Fire destroys Greenville, brings unhealthy air to Washoe County

The mountain town of Greenville, California, has burned to ash. The Dixie Fire, now the sixth largest fire in California history, is so large you can see it from space. It’s burning more than 361,000 acres and taken more than 100 homes. Crews say resistance to evacuation slowed firefighting efforts. The fire just still just 35 percent contained. Firefighters say there’s no clear end in sight.

Air quality, meantime, in Washoe County is rapidly declining due to the Dixie Fire. Right now, we’re under a Stage 2 air quality alert-marking only the third time such a warning has ever been issued by the Washoe County Health District.
