Tamarack Fire jumps state, county line prompting voluntary evacuations in Douglas County

The Tamarack Fire has now jumped state and county lines. The fire started in Alpine County and has now crossed into Nevada into Douglas County. Voluntary evacuations are underway for Topaz Ranch Estates and the Topaz Lake area in the southern part of the county. Smith Valley High School will now serve as an evacuation center. Livestock can be taken to Dresslerville Park. U.S. 395 is closed from China Springs Road in Douglas County to California 89 in Mono County. Firefighters say a shift in winds and dry fuels have made the flames hard to contain. The Tamarack Fire spans nearly 44,000 acres and isn’t at all contained.
