Longtime Reno City Councilwoman Jenny Brekhus will run for mayor in 2022. She made the announcement Thursday. Breckus will face incumbent Mayor Hillary Schieve, who she’s clashed with during her time on council.

A Sun Valley man is convicted in a fatal shooting in 2019. Giovanni Gonzalez-Marsical was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 20-year-old Robert DeCoite of Sparks in Lazy 5 Regional Park. Gonzalez-Mariscal fled the country after the murder and was arrested in Mexico. He was extradited to the U.S. last year.

Firefighters continue to approach full containment of the Beckwourth Complex Fire in Lassen County. The 105,000-acre fire, sparked by lightning, is now 98 percent contained with crews working on hot-spots.

A man already in custody now faces murder charges in connection with a killing earlier this month in Paradise Park. Police say 27-year-old Charles Jones shot and killed 28-year-old Travis Beutler of Reno on July 9th. Two others were injured in the shooting.
