The Petrilla Fire that was sparked south of Reno in the Pleasant Valley area has been declared “accidental.” Truckee Meadows firefighters say the fire was started by worker who was cutting cinderblocks and hit a reinforcing bar, sparking the flames. The fire last month burned more than 520 acres. The worker won’t face penalties.

Dangerous heat in Reno is forecasted for the weekend. Temperatures could reach up to 105 degrees in Reno. They could also hit triple-digits in areas like Pyramid Lake and Lyon County. A 17-year-old boy is killed in a boating accident on Lake Tahoe Monday. Myles Kawashima of Greenbrae, California, fell off a boat and drowned. Emergency crews say his death serves as a reminder to always wear a life vest when out on the lake.
