Washoe County’s COVID-19 positivity rate has jumped to just 5.2% — that’s up from nearly 2.9%. The Health District says the Delta variant, dominant in Washoe County, is more contagious than other strains. Most of the hospitalized cases involve unvaccinated people and that variant strain of the virus.

The Washoe County School Board has a new member. Trustees selected Joe Rodriguez to fill the District C seat, vacated by Andrew Caudill who resigned. Dozens are cited for distracted driving. Reno Police say they put four officers out in the areas where distracted driving crashes happen too often. They cited 31 people, warned five others, and arrested one person on an outstanding felony warrant. Distracted driving includes talking or texting on your cellphone.

Wayne Cameron, who jurors found guilty of first-degree murder Friday in the February 2020 shooting death of Jarrod Faust, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Monday afternoon. Washoe County judge Barry Breslow announced the jury’s sentence. Jurors decided on that sentence after deliberating for exactly two hours.
