Reno police crack down on illegal street racing

More than two dozen people are nabbed in an illegal street racing operation in Reno. Police handed out 26 citations and eight warnings. The crackdown comes in response to increased complaints from residents about street racing late at night and on the weekends.

Man rescued from Sand Harbor after fall

A man fell on rocks near Sand Harbor and had to rescued over the weekend. Washoe County deputies say the man in his 40s, broke his leg and was suffering from dehydration. It’s unclear how long he was on the rocks before he was rescued.

Firefighting efforts against the Beckwourth Complex Fire move backwards. The wildfire now spans 100,000 acres and containment dropped to 68 percent. The U.S. Forest Service blames winds that carried embers. U.S. 395 in California has reopened after closing for a second time yesterday since the fire was sparked by lightning earlier this month.

Donation drive for firefighters a success

The community comes up big for firefighters battling the massive Beckwourth Complex Fire. Project Bear Hugs, which organized a donation drive, says they got all kinds of snacks, water, and personal hygiene products to benefit volunteer firefighters, who haven’t had much of a break this summer.

Fire damages Sparks home

Fire damages a home in Sparks. Firefighters were called to Peppergrass Drive in Wingfield Springs yesterday morning. Crews rescued a family cat, and everyone else got out safely on their own. A garage, the home’s second floor, and a fence sustained serious damage. Investigators believe welding equipment in the garage may have sparked the fire.
