Residents of Topaz Ranch Estates, Topaz Lake in Douglas County and Mesa Vista in Alpine County are being permitted to return to their homes after being strongly advised to flee due to the Tamarack Fire. Evacuations remain in place for Leviathan Mine Road, Holbrook Junction, and Spring Valley. The fire grew to 66,000 acres over the weekend. It’s 27 percent contained with 1,500 fire personnel working around-the-clock to get the flames under control. A state of emergency has also been declared in Douglas County as a result of the fire. Douglas County hopes to reopen U.S. 395 sometime Monday morning if fire conditions permit.
