Gold Star families gather in Reno to mark Memorial Day

Gold Star families gathered at the Atlantis west parking lot Saturday morning in honor of Memorial Day. During the Honor Flight Nevada coffee, a small ceremony was held and there’s a special version of a traveling Christmas tree-decorated with framed photographs of loved ones lost fighting for our freedom.

Fireworks spark fire at Pyramid Lake

Fireworks spark a fire at Pyramid Lake. Firefighters were called to Tamarack Beach Saturday night to put out a wildland fire spanning just over an acre. Nothing was damaged-and no one was hurt. No one was cited because the proper permits had been issued for the fireworks.

Victim hospitalized after shooting in west Sparks

A $500 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in a shooting in west Sparks. It happened early Sunday morning at the Oak Room Lounge on Oddie Boulevard. Police say a fight ended in shots fired with one victim hospitalized. The victim is expected to survive.

NV lawmakers introduce last-minute mining tax

Nevada lawmakers introduce a last-minute proposal to hike taxes on the mining industry. The industry-backed tax would generate an estimated $170 million over two years with funds going towards education. It requires two-thirds support in both the state Senate and the Assembly before they adjourn today.
