A Sparks police officer is suing the city. KOLO-TV reports Officer George Forbush claims he was unjustly disciplined misconduct over tweets he posted from a personal social media account. He says he was placed on administrative leave over his private words that he says is a violation of his First Amendment rights. Sparks had no comment on pending litigation. City council is expected to decide whether they’ll hire outside counsel in the case Monday.

Fire damages a home in Sparks. Firefighters were called to Hubble Drive and Vista Boulevard this morning. They arrived to find a patio and front porch engulfed in flames-fire did spread to the attic. Three people inside the home made it out safely. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Nevada college students who want to return to campus this fall may be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The state’s System of Higher Education is drafting plans to mandate vaccinations for students. Documented religious and medical exemptions would be accepted. The plan would still need approval from the Board of Regents and the state Board of Public Health.
A federal judge may block what would be Nevada’s first execution in 15 years. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Boulware says he’ll need more time to determine whether the undisclosed drugs scheduled to be used in the lethal injection of Zane Floyd next month are constitutional. Floyd was sentenced to death for the killings of four people, and the shooting of a fifth person inside a Las Vegas supermarket in 1999. A court hearing is scheduled for Monday in the case.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who was found dead at Dick Taylor Park. They say the man who’s believed to be homeless died on March 27th. He was found wearing an orange winter coat, neon yellow sweater, white T-shirt, black athletic pants, and grey sneakers. A walker was found near his body. His cause and manner of death aren’t known, but foul play is not suspected. The coroner is hoping someone will recognize the man so he can die with the dignity of having a name.
A small earthquake rattles an area near Truckee. The Nevada Seismological Lab put the tremor at 4.8 on the Richter Scale. It happened last night and was centered near Independence Lake-about 10 miles from Donner Lake. There were no reports of any damage.
UNR is hosting a free COVID-19 vaccine clinic this weekend in an effort to get more students vaccinated. ‘Vax the Pack’ will be held at Whitaker Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. UNR says the vaccine clinics will continue through the summer as students prepare for the return to campus next fall.
