The man who shot a Douglas County sergeant during a traffic stop last year was sentenced to prison Monday afternoon. Nicholas Berreman, 23, will spend up to 61 years in prison for shooting Sergeant John Lenz multiple times on Dec. 20. Berreman, a wanted felon at the time, shot Lenz twice in the chest and once in the face during a traffic stop in the area of Gillman and Douglas avenues in Gardnerville. As for Sgt. Lenz — he’s in great spirits. He’s back on duty with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He also returned to stage with the Reno Philharmonic as a talented cellist.
